This achievement is attributed to his innovative blend of Afrobeats in his music and various collaborations. Last year, Olamide also made headlines as the first African rapper nominated for a Grammy Award.
His collaboration with Asake on the track ‘Amapiano’ was nominated in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category, although it ultimately lost to Tyla’s ‘Water.’
In November 2024, fellow Nigerian artist Crown Uzama, known as Shallipopi, honored Olamide with the title of king of Nigerian street music.
In a discussion with Naija FM, Shallipopi praised Olamide, referring to him as the “father and king of Nigerian street music”.
“Baddo [Olamide] is the father and king of Nigerian street music. So I had to feature him on ‘Order’ because it is a street song and Olamide owns the street,” he said.
This perspective is widely shared, given Olamide’s significant impact in bringing street pop into the mainstream as a recognized genre. His impressive collaborations include tracks like “Wahala” with CKay, “Wise 2.0” with Rybeena, and “Vibes on Vibes” with Liya.
