World Rugby announced on Thursday that the 2027 men’s Rugby World Cup final will be held in Sydney, Australia, concurrently releasing the official tournament draw.

“We are delighted to reach another significant milestone on our journey to Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027,” World Rugby chair Brett Robinson said in a statement.

News outlets reported that the championship match will be held at Sydney’s Olympic Stadium, a purpose-built 80,000-seat venue from the 2000 Olympic Games.

Sydney previously hosted the World Cup final in 2003, where Australia faced England in a closely contested match that extended into overtime.

Rugby Australia’s chief executive, Phil Waugh, a Wallabies player in that match, stated that hosting a final on home soil represents the ultimate career achievement.

“I am delighted this generation of Wallabies will have the privilege of experiencing the emotion, excitement and joy of pulling on the gold jersey before our passionate fans at a Men’s Rugby World Cup in own backyard.”

Sydney will host two semi-final matches, the third-place playoff match, and several other knockout and pool stage matches.

The remaining matches will be distributed among Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Adelaide, and Townsville.

The tournament dates, as per the World Rugby schedule, are October 1st to November 13th.
