After a heated exchange between Kenya Airways staff at the transfer desk and a Nigerian passenger named Omisore, she has now made it back to Nigeria.

Omisore landed safely in Lagos after taking a Kenya Airways flight, following a viral video of the incident that sparked widespread criticism.

In response, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reached out to Kenya Airways’ acting station manager.

The video, shared by Tunde Moshood, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, showed Omisore expressing her frustration over how she and other Nigerian passengers were treated by the airline staff.

The confrontation reportedly took place in Nairobi, Kenya, while Omisore was waiting for her connecting flight.

“Our attention has been drawn to several cases of inhuman treatments of Nigerian passengers in Nairobi by @KenyaAirways,”  Moshood stated.

He highlighted the case of Ms. Omisore G., who traveled from Manchester to Lagos with a connection through Paris and Nairobi, only to be denied boarding in Nairobi for the second leg of her journey.

In response, Kenya Airways tweeted that Omisore was not allowed to board because she lacked a Schengen visa for France, which is necessary for entry into any EU country.

The airline mentioned that they offered her an alternative route from London to Manchester, which she turned down, resulting in the verbal dispute.

“We strongly condemn such conduct. While we remain committed to delivering exceptional service, we expect all interactions to be based on mutual respect. Our employees deserve to work in a safe and dignified environment, and we do not tolerate any abuse from our employees or guests,” the airline said.

The statement claims that the video didn’t capture the entire situation, suggesting that Omisore later acted inappropriately by tossing used sanitary pads at the airline staff.

Kenya Airways added that Omisore asked for accommodation after being denied boarding, but clarified that they don’t provide accommodation for visa-related issues.

They mentioned that the incident has been reported and is currently under investigation by the appropriate security agencies.

“The incident has been reported and is under investigation by the relevant security agencies. We are committed to taking the necessary steps to ensure the well-being and safety of our employees and guests at all times,”  said Kenya Airways.

However, reports indicate that the victim managed to board a Kenya Airways flight back to Lagos, Nigeria.

‘History Of Mistreatment’

The NCAA also chimed in, stating that Kenya Airways allegedly has a track record of mistreating Nigerians, including their own staff.

Michael Achimugu, the NCAA Director of Public Affairs, mentioned that the acting station manager of Kenya Airways in Lagos has been called to a mandatory meeting today to discuss the incident and address the authority's concerns.

He noted that Kenya Airways will be required to provide CCTV footage to back up their claims that Omisore threw the sanitary pads at their staff.

“I have advised the passenger that unruly behaviour is inexcusable at any airport and she can be blacklisted by the airline, and even pay fines. The NCAA does not condone unruly behaviour,” the director said.

“There is no basis to have tried to forcefully delete her video. You should not have allowed her to board your flight from Nigeria IF she was not qualified due to visa requirements. You issued her boarding passes and let her leave Lagos. She flew into Nigeria via your airline on the same route.

“She claims to have called the airline BEFORE paying for the ticket and she was told that she was qualified since she own a BRP.
