Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has publicly declared his support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the ongoing sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The controversy erupted after Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed in a television interview that Akpabio refused to entertain her motion regarding the Ajaokuta Steel Complex because she rejected his alleged sexual advances.

The Kogi Central Senator has faced significant backlash since making the allegations, particularly from her female colleagues in the Senate. However, during a recent Instagram Live session, Kuti voiced his unwavering support for Akpoti-Uduaghan, criticizing Nigerian celebrities and feminists for their silence on the matter.

“I stand with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan 100 percent,” Kuti stated. “She isn’t even the first person to make such allegations against the Senate President. It’s appalling that all these so-called women activists are staying quiet.”

Kuti compared the lack of public support for Akpoti-Uduaghan to the widespread backing actress Annie Idibia received during her marital dispute with singer 2Face. He accused many celebrities, particularly Nollywood actors and actresses, of remaining silent because they benefit from government grants and favors.

“These kinds of things cannot continue in this country,” Kuti said. “What Natasha is saying is very serious, but the celebrities won’t come out to support her the way they defended Annie against 2Face. Many of them are benefiting from fraudulent government grants, so they’ll never speak up on matters like this.”

While acknowledging that he cannot openly protest to demand justice for Akpoti-Uduaghan, Kuti urged Nigerian women to rally behind her. “I implore Nigerian women to support her,” he said. “This is a critical issue that deserves attention and action.”

Kuti’s comments have reignited discussions about the role of public figures in addressing sensitive issues like sexual harassment and the perceived double standards in how such cases are handled. His outspoken stance highlights the need for accountability and solidarity in confronting allegations of misconduct, especially within positions of power.
