Dr. Fadolapo was one of three distinguished individuals to receive the prestigious fellowship. He shared the honor with Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Tim Akano, MD/CEO of New Horizon Nigeria. The ceremony highlighted the NIPR's commitment to recognizing leadership and impactful contributions across various fields, extending its reach beyond traditional public relations practitioners.
Acknowledging Interconnectedness and Leadership
For Dr. Fadolapo, the NIPR fellowship is more than a personal accolade; it's an affirmation of the collaborative spirit he champions. "This honor signifies that other industries and key stakeholders appreciate my contributions to the growth and improvement of the industry," he remarked at the ceremony. He further emphasized that the recognition validates the reforms ARCON is spearheading, underscoring the council's effective leadership within the advertising landscape.
A key pillar of this collaborative vision is the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ARCON, NIPR, and the National Institute of Marketing Nigeria (NIMN). Dr. Fadolapo highlighted this MoU as crucial for fostering a united front within the broader marketing communication industry. "This induction is an endorsement, a collaboration, and an alignment with other sectoral groups, and it affirms that we are on the right path," he stated, reinforcing the idea that regulatory bodies and professional institutes must work hand-in-hand.
He elaborated on the essence of this collaboration, emphasizing that both public relations and advertising are integral components of the marketing communication ecosystem, each playing vital roles in communication strategy. The MoU, he explained, aims to facilitate smoother transitions and greater synergy between public relations practitioners and the advertising industry, effectively reducing bureaucracy and improving workflow. Given the close relationship between the curricula of both fields, this formalized partnership is expected to streamline operations and foster a more integrated approach to industry development.A Respected Recognition
The significance of the NIPR fellowship was also deeply felt by fellow honoree Tim Akano, MD/CEO of New Horizon Nigeria. Despite having received numerous awards in the past, Akano expressed particular gratitude for the NIPR recognition, acknowledging the institute's reputation as one of Nigeria's and Africa's most respected professional bodies. "The fact that NIPR considered me alongside two other esteemed individuals for this award means a great deal to me," Akano shared, reflecting the high regard in which the NIPR is held.
A Leader's Journey
Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo's journey to this distinguished honor is marked by a deep commitment to education and industry advancement. He holds a first degree in Economics from Ogun State University and an impressive array of postgraduate qualifications, including three master's degrees: an MSc in Marketing, an MBA, and an MILS. He further solidified his academic foundation with a PhD in Marketing, specializing in Marketing Communications, from Babcock University.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Dr. Fadolapo is a Fellow of the Advertising Profession, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN). His active involvement in the industry includes serving on the immediate past Governing Council of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) and the Executive Committee of the Heads of Advertising Sectoral Groups (HASG).
His leadership in the regulatory landscape saw him appointed as the fourth substantive Registrar/Chief Executive of APCON in August 2020 by then-President Muhammadu Buhari. With the recent reform that led to the renaming of APCON to the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Dr. Fadolapo was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as ARCON's first Director-General. Under his continued guidance, ARCON is dedicated to advancing the regulation and growth of Nigeria's dynamic advertising industry, a mission that the NIPR honorary fellowship now further strengthens through enhanced inter-industry collaboration.
