Nollywood actress Esther Nwachukwu, popularly known as Esther Sky, has weighed in on the ongoing and increasingly public drama within the Edochie family, urging May Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie, to distance herself completely by dropping his surname.
Her comments come in the wake of fresh tensions involving Yul’s brother, Linc Edochie, and his new wife, Yinka. Yinka recently stirred controversy by allegedly leaking private phone numbers online — a move many see as escalating an already volatile situation. The incident has renewed public interest and debate around the internal affairs of the once-revered Edochie household.
“Drop the Name and Move On,” Says Esther
In a video posted to her Instagram account, Esther Nwachukwu expressed concern over what she describes as a united front against May by the Edochie family, including veteran actress Rita Edochie, who is widely believed to support Yul and his extended family.
“With all due respect, drop Yul Edochie’s name, so that there would be peace,” Esther said in the video. “Even if your documents still carry ‘May Yul Edochie,’ go to court. You are winning already. There’s nothing special about the name.”
She further encouraged May to take control of her narrative by publicly adopting a new identity, adding, “Post online, give us your new name.”
Allegations of Family Betrayal
Esther went on to accuse members of Yul Edochie’s family of turning against May, implying that internal conversations and alliances were being formed behind her back. “The family has planned against her,” she claimed. “All Yul Edochie’s siblings and brothers have been bought. If they weren’t conspiring behind closed doors, the new wife wouldn’t come online and drag Queen May for no reason.”
Her remarks reflect a growing sentiment among fans and observers that the family dynamics have become deeply fractured, with loyalties seemingly shifting away from May.
A Call to Pete Edochie
Perhaps the most pointed part of Esther’s video was directed at veteran actor and family patriarch Pete Edochie. Criticising his silence amid the escalating tensions, she called on him to intervene publicly.
“I’m calling out Pete Edochie. Sir, with all due respect, put a stop to this madness going on in your family. You are the one who can stop it. Enough is enough,” she said.
Public Reactions: Divided Opinions
The video quickly sparked reactions across social media, with viewers offering a mix of support and criticism:
- @marysilver commented, “I dey feel you my dear,” aligning with Esther’s sentiments.
- @full_moon warned, “Rita Edochie is on Linc’s side and his new wife, so Queen May be careful with Mama Rita.”
- @bianca457054 added, “Judy wants to be the best daughter-in-law; she has used Yinka to the highest level.”
- However, not everyone agreed. @bosskid447 argued, “She should not drop it. Doing so will give Judy peace.”
- @corazonlation reflected more broadly, “If the sons are doing this, then the father is also questionable. I wonder what their mother has gone through.”
Beyond the Name: A Larger Identity Struggle
At the heart of Esther’s advice is a broader question of identity, dignity, and independence. May Edochie, once a quiet figure in the shadows of her husband’s public life, has emerged in recent months as a symbol of resilience amid adversity. Whether or not she chooses to retain the Edochie name may soon become symbolic of a deeper transformation — not just of her personal life, but of the changing dynamics of power, loyalty, and legacy in one of Nollywood’s most talked-about families.
