World No. 1 golfer Nelly Korda is pushing through a nagging neck issue as she prepares for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship this week. The 25-year-old skipped the traditional champions dinner on Monday night, opting instead to rest and treat a flare-up that occurred during a practice round.

Korda revealed that the injury reemerged after hitting a shot from the rough at Fields Ranch East in Frisco, Texas—sending her neck into a spasm and disrupting her preparation.

“I hit a shot out of the rough Monday, and my neck went into a full spasm,” she told reporters on Tuesday, sporting therapeutic tape on the back of her neck. “I felt better today, but it’s still affecting me a little—especially with my swing and practice rhythm.”

This isn’t the first time Korda has battled neck trouble. Late last season, she pulled out of two tournaments during the LPGA’s Asia swing to manage a similar issue. Since then, she’s been cautious about any signs of recurrence.

“Every time something flares up in my neck now, I feel it a little more than I used to,” she said. “But I have a great physical therapist who takes care of me. I’m working through it and will be ready by Thursday.”

Korda, who captured the Women’s PGA Championship title in 2021, made sure to send well wishes to defending champion Amy Yang in lieu of attending the dinner. Her decision to skip the event underlines her focus on health and long-term performance.

Despite holding the No. 1 ranking, Korda enters the week without a win in her last nine starts. The LPGA season has been unusually competitive, featuring 15 different winners across 15 events, and Korda is looking to break that streak.

She came close at the U.S. Women’s Open three weeks ago, finishing runner-up in a strong showing. Now, with her health under close watch, Korda hopes to return to peak form in time to contend for her second major title of the year.

All eyes will be on the tee this Thursday as she joins the field for the season’s third major, hoping that recovery and resilience will pay off.
