The stage is set for one of Africa’s most prestigious music events as the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2025 begins its rigorous adjudication process in Lagos, Nigeria. With this year’s theme, “Unstoppable Africa,” the awards aim to spotlight the continent’s thriving music scene, recognizing both established stars and emerging voices across genres and regions.
International Jury Begins Deliberations
A 13-member International Jury, composed of music professionals and cultural experts from across Africa and the diaspora, has convened in Lagos to assess thousands of entries submitted for this year’s awards. Representing the five African regions, as well as Europe and North America, the jurors are tasked with evaluating submissions across a wide range of categories — including songwriting, production, performance, and music videos.
Submissions will be judged based on musical quality, originality, impact, and cultural relevance, with the goal of identifying the most compelling and authentic expressions of African music in the past year.
A Transparent, Merit-Based Selection Process
According to Hadja Kobele, a jury member representing the African diaspora in North America, the team is fully committed to upholding a process rooted in integrity and meritocracy.
“We take this job very seriously,” Kobele emphasized. “Each entry submitted, whether it comes from a household name or an emerging voice, will be assessed strictly on merit. Our criteria are clear: musical quality, originality, impact, and cultural relevance. AFRIMA isn’t about industry politics or social media popularity; it’s about honouring the music, the message, and the creators behind it.”
She added that the weight of continental expectation rests on their shoulders:
“The whole continent is watching, and we have to ensure that only the most deserving talents and works are nominated. This is a celebration of African excellence, and we are committed to making sure that the process remains fair, credible, and free of bias. No shortcuts, no sentiment—just pure, honest work in service of African music.”
Key Dates: Nominations, Voting, and the Grand Event
The nominee list for AFRIMA 2025 is expected to be announced on August 24, marking the start of a public voting period that will give fans and music lovers the opportunity to support their favourite artists.
The excitement will culminate in the main awards ceremony on November 30, which will be broadcast live across more than 84 countries — a testament to the expanding global appeal of African music.

AFRIMA 2025 is being hosted in partnership with the African Union, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Lagos State Government. This collaboration underscores the awards’ mission not only as a celebration of music but also as a platform for uniting the continent through culture and creativity.
