Popular Nigerian actress and skitmaker Patience Yisa, widely known as Pepe, has opened up about how transitioning into skitmaking transformed her career trajectory and personal finances.
In a recent interview, the entertainer — who commands over 1.4 million Facebook followers, nearly a million fans on TikTok and Instagram, and close to 100,000 YouTube subscribers — described her entry into online comedy as a “game-changer.”
“Nothing really has been happening apart from me trying to diversify. I started as an actress and fell in love with skitmaking,” she said. “Who doesn’t want to shoot a skit for less than 30 minutes and make money from it? Skitmaking makes faster money than movies. Apart from passion, you also want to make a living. Nobody wants to follow passion and end up broke.”
Yisa explained that her decision to explore digital comedy opened new doors in her career, leading to renewed visibility and financial independence.
“When I saw an opportunity in skitmaking, I decided to take it up. I’m back into the industry, and I’ve shot two movies back to back. One of them, Lost Blood, is currently enjoying rave reviews on YouTube. From now on, expect to see more from me,” she said.
She praised skitmaking as one of the most lucrative avenues for modern entertainers, noting that even established stars such as Mercy Johnson, Destiny Etiko, and Don Jazzy now actively participate in the digital comedy space.
“The platform is big enough for everyone,” she explained. “Gone are the days when actors depended on producers or executive producers to succeed. With social media, nobody needs to wait for promotion anymore. YouTube, at the end of the day, is our retirement plan.”
Yisa’s story mirrors a growing trend among Nollywood actors leveraging social media to maintain relevance and financial stability in an increasingly digital entertainment landscape.
