In a recent conversation with Potpourri, the actor revealed that his curiosity about why people behave the way they do led him to the stage and screen. Acting, he said, became a means of exploring humanity and expressing emotions that words alone could not capture.
“I’ve always been an inquisitive being, always trying to understand what makes people do the things they do and what it feels like for them,” he shared. “Acting gave me that medium — it helped me express things I couldn’t put into words. I fell in love with the vulnerability and honesty that come with the craft.”
Ekpe, who has steadily carved a niche in Nollywood through emotionally rich performances, reflected on his journey so far as one defined by growth, sacrifice, and self-discovery.
“Honestly, I think it has been rewarding,” he said. “There are times when I doubt myself and wonder why I chose to do this, and then there are times when our work inspires people, and I am reminded why I chose this path. In our line of work, I dare say, reward is relative.”
Like many actors navigating the industry’s uncertainties, Ekpe acknowledged that one of the biggest sacrifices he has made is giving up stability — the comfort of routine and predictability.
“I have made a lot of sacrifices, but if I’m forced to choose, I’ll go with stability and routine,” he admitted. “There are a lot of uncertainties in this line of work and unpredictable schedules. Having to sacrifice certainty and stability tops the chart for me.”
Despite the challenges, the actor remains driven by his passion for storytelling and the power of cinema to touch lives. He continues to grow his career with performances that blend emotional honesty and artistic versatility, positioning him as one of Nollywood’s promising voices in contemporary film.
“When our work moves people — when it makes them laugh, cry, or think — that’s when I know all the sacrifices are worth it,” he added.
