The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that Ethiopian Airlines has paid the sanction fees previously imposed on it for consumer protection-related violations, marking full compliance by all international carriers sanctioned by the Authority this year.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at the NCAA, announced the development via his official X account on Monday, emphasizing that the fines were intended as corrective measures rather than punitive actions.
“The sanctions are intended to help improve the services of the operators and not to punish them,” Achimugu explained, noting that the goal is to ensure airlines operating in Nigeria meet established consumer protection standards.
Earlier in 2025, the NCAA had sanctioned three international airlines over infractions relating to poor customer service and violations of passenger rights. With Ethiopian Airlines’ payment, all three carriers have now complied fully with the Authority’s directives.
Reaffirming the agency’s commitment to maintaining high service standards, Achimugu stressed that the NCAA remains dedicated to safeguarding the rights and interests of all stakeholders in the aviation sector, including both passengers and airline operators.
The move underscores the NCAA’s continued effort to enforce accountability and elevate service quality across Nigeria’s skies.
