The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has celebrated its latest milestone after emerging as the 11th best university in Nigeria in the newly released 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the university described the new ranking as a significant improvement from its 2025 position, when it placed 12th nationally. The institution said the achievement reflected its ongoing commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and effective institutional governance.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina hailed the recognition as “a testament to the university’s strategic planning and unwavering pursuit of quality.”

“This advancement reflects the collective hard work and dedication of our staff and faculty members,”
Fasina stated, commending the university community for upholding high academic and administrative standards.

The university’s management also reaffirmed confidence in the leadership of its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, who recently returned from a six-month research leave.

“We believe in our chairman, distinguished senator and revered Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba,”
the statement read. “His leadership continues to inspire stability, growth, and academic excellence within the institution.”

Meanwhile, the management cautioned a former staff member against making false or inciting statements capable of undermining FUOYE’s progress or disrupting its internal harmony.

Reiterating its long-term vision, the university pledged to sustain its culture of transparency, peace, and steady academic advancement as it works toward becoming one of Africa’s top-tier universities.

With this latest recognition, FUOYE joins the growing list of Nigerian institutions gaining visibility in international academic rankings, underscoring the steady rise of public universities in research output and global competitiveness.
