In a move to strengthen Nigeria’s small business ecosystem and enhance its role in the digital economy, the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has rolled out a 15 per cent logistics discount for more than 20,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) registered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

The Postmaster General of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, announced the initiative on Thursday during the commemoration of the 2025 World Post Day, themed “Post for People: Local Service, Global Reach.”

Odeyemi said the discount was part of the agency’s broader plan to reduce operational costs for small businesses, boost their competitiveness, and expand their market access. “Through this partnership with SMEDAN, more than 20,000 MSMEs stand to benefit, lowering their operational costs and allowing them to expand their market reach,” she noted.

She added that NIPOST has also introduced a new e-commerce platform known as the Digital Market Places, designed to empower entrepreneurs and digital merchants. The platform integrates logistics, payment, and last-mile delivery solutions to help Nigerian businesses manage online sales locally and globally with greater efficiency and reliability.

Reaffirming NIPOST’s commitment to innovation and service improvement, Odeyemi highlighted the agency’s ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and the National Population Commission to implement a National Addressing System. The initiative will introduce a new digital postcode system aimed at improving mail delivery accuracy, logistics coordination, and national planning.

She said these reforms align with the World Post Day theme, which underscores the postal sector’s role in connecting people and facilitating commerce across borders.

According to Odeyemi, NIPOST’s renewed focus on logistics modernization, digital integration, and inclusive service delivery reflects its determination to remain a key player in Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape.
