In a strategic move to enhance governance and board diversity, Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc has announced the appointment of Mrs. Amina Maina as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective October 16, 2025. The appointment, disclosed in a filing with the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Wednesday, will be subject to ratification at the company’s next Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The company stated that Mrs. Maina’s inclusion on the board reflects its ongoing commitment to reinforcing strategic supervision, strengthening governance depth, and aligning its operations with global best practices in corporate oversight. Chukwuebuka Omerole, Company Secretary at P.C. Obi & Co., highlighted that the board anticipates leveraging her extensive experience to advance Okomu Oil’s long-term strategy, operational performance, and sustainability initiatives.

A Wealth of Leadership Experience

Mrs. Maina brings over two decades of executive leadership across the energy, trading, and investment sectors. Her career is marked by operational discipline, strategic insight, and a consistent focus on sustainable business growth across Africa. She currently chairs the Eyrie Group and has previously held senior positions at MRS Holdings Limited, including Group Chief Operating Officer and Group Executive Director. Her professional journey also spans Ovlas Trading SA, Aurora Energy Trading Ltd, and Energy Solutions Integrated Services Ltd, underscoring her expertise in international commerce and Africa’s energy value chain.

Academically, Mrs. Maina holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She has further honed her leadership and strategic skills through executive programs at Harvard Business School and INSEAD, specializing in global management and competitive strategy.

Championing Economic Growth and Inclusion

Beyond her corporate roles, Mrs. Maina has been an influential voice in national economic development. She serves on the Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC) and the Governing Council of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund. She chairs Next Gen Infraco Limited, contributing to the expansion of digital infrastructure, and sits on the boards of MRS Benin and First Mutual Microfinance Bank.

Her professional affiliations are wide-ranging and include fellowship of the Institute of Management Consultants and the Energy Institute, membership in the Institute of Directors, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
