Real Madrid have confirmed that veteran defender Dani Carvajal has successfully undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, with the player expected to be sidelined for up to two to three months.

The Spanish champions announced the procedure in a statement on Tuesday, noting that it was completed without complications. However, the club did not specify an official recovery timeline.

Carvajal’s latest setback comes just days after he featured in Madrid’s 2–1 victory over Barcelona in Sunday’s La Liga Clásico, coming on as a substitute for Federico Valverde in the 72nd minute. Although he completed the match, the 33-year-old later reported discomfort in his right knee, prompting medical evaluation.

This marks another injury spell for the experienced right-back, who has struggled with fitness issues over the past two seasons. He previously missed nine months in 2024 due to a separate knee injury and has been limited to just eight appearances in the current campaign.

Carvajal’s absence leaves a gap on the right side of Madrid’s defense, though Trent Alexander-Arnold — recently recovering from a hamstring injury — is expected to step in as Carlo Ancelotti’s first-choice right-back in upcoming fixtures.

Madrid return to action on Saturday, when they host Valencia at the Santiago Bernabéu as they continue their push for another La Liga title.
