Less than 24 hours after releasing her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, Taylor Swift has once again rewritten Spotify history. The project’s lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” has officially become the most-streamed song in a single day in the platform’s history — surpassing a record Swift herself set earlier this year.

According to Spotify, “Ophelia” racked up more than 25 million streams within its first day, edging past Swift’s previous record-holder “Fortnight” from The Tortured Poets Department (April 2024). That track had dethroned Adele’s “Easy on Me,” which held the crown since 2021 with nearly 20 million streams on its release day.

Industry observers say “Ophelia” could be on track to challenge Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” for the most-streamed song in a week, depending on how well it sustains momentum through the weekend.

But Swift’s dominance didn’t end there. Spotify confirmed that The Life of a Showgirl also became the most-streamed album in a single day in 2025, reaching that milestone in less than 12 hours after release. It had already set another platform record ahead of launch, becoming the most pre-saved album ever with over five million advance adds.

The 12-track project, announced in August, continues Swift’s prolific creative streak following The Tortured Poets Department, which itself was the most-streamed album of 2025, ahead of Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet. Before “Ophelia,” Swift held seven of the top 10 most-streamed songs in a single day with tracks from Poets and Midnights.

Swift marked the arrival of Showgirl with a nationwide event, “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” hosted in movie theaters across the U.S. on Thursday night. The event featured the premiere of the “Ophelia” music video, behind-the-scenes footage, and lyric videos for the album’s tracks.

The pop icon is expected to continue her promotional blitz with high-profile appearances on Late Night With Seth Meyers, The Graham Norton Show, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in the coming week — signaling that even after nearly two decades at the top, Taylor Swift’s era of breaking her own records is far from over.
