Taylor Swift has addressed speculation surrounding her speech at Selena Gomez’s recent wedding to music producer Benny Blanco, clarifying that she made no mention of her own relationship or engagement during the event.
The Grammy-winning singer set the record straight during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, following online rumours that she had expressed jealousy over Gomez tying the knot before her.
Swift, who attended the private ceremony in late September, said her speech focused entirely on celebrating her longtime friend and reminiscing about their early days, rather than drawing attention to herself.
“I did do some light teasing about the way we dressed in 2008, the year we met,” she said, referencing their fashion choices at the time. “It was the year of deep, deep V-necks. It was the year of colorful skinny jeans.”
She went on to say that she was intentional about keeping the spotlight on Gomez and her happiness.
“I made a point to not mention anything about my engagement,” Swift said. “I talked about how happy I am for her and just how beautiful it’s been to get to be a part of her life. But I did not make it about me.”
The Cruel Summer singer also revealed during the interview why she hadn’t yet shared the news of her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce with close friend and fellow musician Ed Sheeran, though she did not elaborate further on the matter.
Gomez and Blanco's wedding drew attention not only for its star-studded guest list but also for the long-standing friendship between the bride and Swift — one that has often been held up as an example of genuine camaraderie in the entertainment industry.
