Nigerian singer and songwriter Omawumi has spoken openly about her past relationships with late rapper Dagrin and late producer Dokta Frabz, shedding light on long-standing rumours that once trailed her early music career.

In a candid chat with Jay On Air, the award-winning vocalist clarified that contrary to speculation, she never dated Dagrin despite their close bond and musical collaboration on the 2009 hit song “Thank God.”

“Dagrin was my guy; we used to hang out together. He was a fantastic person,” Omawumi said, describing the late rapper as a vibrant and talented artist she shared mutual respect with.

However, the singer confirmed that she indeed dated renowned music producer Dokta Frabz, who was behind several iconic Nigerian hits before his passing in 2021.

“I was drawn to Dokta Frabz because he was such a lover of music. He was incredibly talented. He would look into my eyes while singing and I would be cheering,” she revealed.
“And because of that, I was always around him — in his studio. I met most of the music industry figures through Dokta Frabz. We actually dated.”

Dagrin, celebrated for his lyrical depth and street-savvy storytelling, tragically died in a car crash in April 2010, while Dokta Frabz passed away in 2021.

Omawumi’s reflections offered a rare glimpse into her early years in the industry, marked by creative friendships and deep personal connections with two figures whose contributions continue to shape Nigerian music.
