Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has addressed the controversy surrounding her recent comments about being open to becoming a second wife, explaining that her remarks were made out of frustration and emotional pain from past experiences.

In a recent episode of the American podcast Air Service, the 45-year-old singer had said her pool of eligible men often includes those in their 50s or already married — a statement that sparked widespread debate online.

“If I meet somebody who can really marry me, they are either in their 50s or already married. So, I don’t know. Maybe I can be a second wife,” she had said.

However, in a follow-up video, Tiwa Savage clarified that her words were misinterpreted and that she has no real interest in polygamy.

“I was a first wife, where did that get me? I got married as the only wife but here we are. I’m tired of being heartbroken; maybe I’m getting it wrong. Maybe I should try being a second wife,” she explained, describing her comments as expressions of pain rather than intent.

The singer, who was previously married to music executive Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun, added that her statement reflected emotional exhaustion rather than personal conviction.

“It’s not my choice, though. I don’t want to. I wish I could tell my truth, but I will be dragged,” she said.

Tiwa’s clarification comes as fans continue to discuss the pressures faced by successful women in relationships and the complexities of love and commitment in the spotlight.
