XL Creative Hub has officially unveiled Battle of the Beats Season 1 — Nigeria’s first-ever Afrobeats production reality show — set to run from November 1 to 12, 2025, with live streaming available on YouTube.
According to the Hub’s Business Manager, Clement Makinde, the 12-day music contest will feature six top Afrobeats producers competing in a high-pressure creative camp, crafting beats under the scrutiny of seasoned industry judges.
“Watch six carefully selected producers locked in an intense camp, creating beats under pressure while professional judges evaluate every production,” Makinde said.
He noted that registration for the competition is free, emphasising that “we are not collecting a dime from any participant.”
The show will open on November 1, followed by an elimination night on November 8, and a grand finale on November 12, where the top three producers will battle for the crown and cash prizes — ₦500,000 for the winner, ₦300,000 for second place, and ₦200,000 for third.
After the producers’ contest, artists from across Nigeria will be invited to record songs using the winning beats and compete for major prizes between November 12 and 24.
Artist prizes include ₦1 million and a label contract for the winner, ₦500,000 for second place, and ₦300,000 for third. Public voting and professional judging will determine the winners between November 12 and 25, 2025.
Makinde said the initiative aims to bridge the gap between grassroots creativity and professional opportunity by providing access to world-class production tools, mentorship, and exposure.
“Battle of the Beats seeks to discover raw talent, document Afrobeats’ evolution, inject funds directly into the creative economy, and build a transparent annual platform that launches real careers,” he explained.
The show’s judging panel includes respected industry figures — Mr. Mekoyo, Tunde Akinsanmi of Styl-Plus, and Monlee Mane.
Mekoyo, a renowned music producer and instrumentalist, gained national recognition for producing Styl-Plus’s hit single “Olufunmi”, a timeless classic in Nigerian music history.
In the short term, the competition aims to launch at least three professional careers, deliver measurable economic impact, and grow a 50,000-member YouTube community.
Looking ahead, the organisers envision a Pan-African expansion, with prize pools reaching ₦25–₦30 million, and recognition alongside Nigeria’s biggest music awards.
Makinde encouraged music fans to follow @battleofthebeatsshow on Instagram and tune in for the premiere on November 1, declaring, “This is your moment — don’t miss a beat!”
