The atmosphere around the premiere reflected the emotional essence of the romantic drama itself — warm, nostalgic and deeply personal. Before guests even stepped into the cinema hall, a lively Tiwa Savage-inspired karaoke session had already transformed the venue into a celebration of music and connection. Fans sang along to some of the singer’s biggest hits, creating an energetic pre-screening experience that set the tone for the night.
At the centre of the film is the story of Soluchi, a call centre agent trying to rebuild her life after emotional heartbreak, and Eli, a television newscaster who unexpectedly discovers love through a seemingly ordinary workplace interaction. The movie explores themes of vulnerability, healing, trust and the difficult process of opening one’s heart again after disappointment.
Lead actor Andrew Bunting, who plays Eli, spoke passionately about the emotional depth required for the role. According to him, portraying a man caught between caution and unexpected affection demanded sincerity and restraint.
“Let’s talk about love being vulnerable and unapologetically yourself,” he said.
Describing what love means to him in simple but powerful terms, Bunting added:
“Peace, comfort, safety.”
For writer and lead actress Uzoamaka Power, the story carries a personal connection. Power revealed that parts of the narrative were inspired by her own experiences working at a call centre, giving the screenplay a sense of realism and emotional honesty.
“The producer, Blessing Uzi, and I wanted to tell a great story based on love. We explored an experience I had at the call centre,” she explained.
She noted that Soluchi’s character was carefully developed around authentic emotional experiences, particularly the pain that comes from relationships lacking genuine care, understanding and support.
Director Dammy Twitch, widely known for his success in music video production, described the project as an important milestone in his transition into feature filmmaking. He acknowledged that directing a full-length romantic drama came with its own challenges, especially in sustaining emotional continuity throughout the story.
Still, he said the screenplay made the process worthwhile because of its honesty and emotional depth.
“The script comes from an honest place. I really loved directing this because the script was amazing,” he stated.
He further noted that the film reinforces his belief that love should be embraced sincerely and experienced without fear or pretense.
Actress Beverly Osu, who stars as Zimuzo, also reflected on the production process, describing the atmosphere on set as calm, collaborative and creatively fulfilling. According to her, the supportive environment helped actors deliver more natural and believable performances.
Adding glamour and star presence to the premiere was music star Tiwa Savage, whose attendance drew excitement from guests and fans alike. The singer expressed her support for the project and commended the creative team behind the film.
Beyond its romance-driven plot, Call of My Life appears to position itself as a story about emotional resilience, self-discovery and the courage required to love again — themes that resonated strongly with guests at the Lagos screening.
