Nigeria’s football community is celebrating a remarkable wave of success across Europe, with several Super Eagles and Super Falcons players clinching league titles and domestic cups in a standout season that has drawn praise from the country’s football leadership.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, commended the players for their achievements, describing their success abroad as both a source of national pride and a positive indicator of the national teams’ competitive readiness.

“The NFF is very happy with the achievements of these players in their various clubs and Leagues. It is a thing of joy to see our players winning trophies here and there, as it presents assurance that they are in good form to deliver whenever any international match or tournament comes up,” he said.

Gusau added a note of encouragement, urging the players to sustain their momentum.

“We congratulate them warmly and wish them greater heights, while charging them not to rest on their oars but rather pursue even greater glory in their different stations.”

The season has seen Nigerian players playing decisive roles in major triumphs across Turkey, Portugal, Scotland, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, England and Italy, underlining the growing influence of Nigerian talent in global football.

Osimhen Leads the Charge in Turkey

One of the headline achievements came from Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, who powered Galatasaray to the Turkish Super Lig title. The forward played a decisive role throughout the campaign, finishing as one of the club’s key goal sources as they secured the championship with a match to spare.

Porto Success and Defensive Contributions

Defender Zaidu Sanusi also enjoyed silverware success in Portugal after FC Porto lifted the Taça de Portugal. His international teammate Terem Moffi added to the celebration following a loan move from OGC Nice, contributing to Porto’s successful cup run.

In Scotland, forward Kelechi Iheanacho played a significant role in Celtic FC’s domestic dominance, helping the club secure a league and cup double in his debut season.

Elsewhere in Europe, defender Igoh Ogbu celebrated a Czech First League title with Slavia Prague, while goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was part of the Omonia Nicosia squad that won the Cypriot First Division.

In England, defender Oluwasemilogo Ajayi was instrumental as Hull City triumphed in the Championship play-off final, securing promotion to the Premier League in dramatic fashion.

Super Falcons Shine in Europe

The success story extended strongly to the women’s game, where Nigeria’s Super Falcons stars continued to raise the country’s profile.

Midfielder Christy Ucheibe enjoyed a trophy-laden season in Portugal with SL Benfica, winning multiple honours including the Taça de Portugal Feminina, Taça de Liga Feminina and the Super Taça de Portugal Feminina.

Defender Shukurat Oladipo made an immediate impact in Italy after joining AS Roma from FC Robo Queens, earning recognition as Serie A Femminile’s best defender as her club secured the league title.

Forward Rinsola Babajide also contributed to Roma’s successful campaign, scoring two goals in nine league appearances as the club wrapped up the championship season.

Together, the achievements highlight a growing footprint of Nigerian players across Europe’s top leagues, with contributions spanning decisive goals, defensive solidity and squad depth—fueling optimism for both club and country going forward.
