The Nigerian forward clashed with the Uruguay international during Galatasaray’s 2-1 defeat to Villarreal over the weekend, in an incident that drew strong criticism from Villarreal head coach Iñigo Pérez.
The confrontation occurred after Mouriño used his body to prevent Osimhen from advancing into a dangerous position inside the penalty area. Osimhen appeared unhappy with the defender’s challenge, with the exchange between the two players quickly becoming heated.
The referee showed Osimhen a yellow card for the incident, a decision that Pérez felt was too lenient.
Villarreal coach criticises Osimhen
Speaking after the match, Pérez accused the Galatasaray striker of going beyond a normal football challenge and suggested that Osimhen should have been sent off.
The Villarreal manager was particularly critical of what he described as an attack on his defender, while also expressing disappointment with the overall nature of the friendly.
”There is not much to say about the football, because the opposing team didn’t come onto the field to play football, but to fight,” Perez said.
”Osimhen attacked our player out of nowhere and only got a yellow card.”
Pérez's comments have added further attention to an otherwise routine pre-season fixture, with the confrontation overshadowing much of the discussion surrounding the match.
Osimhen, who remains one of Galatasaray's key attacking players, is expected to play a major role for the Turkish club as they prepare for the new season.
The incident also highlights the intensity that can sometimes accompany pre-season matches, particularly when established international players are involved.
