United chief executive says the club’s financial performance and summer squad investment reflect progress made over the past two years.

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada has pointed to the club’s record financial performance and return to the Champions League as evidence of progress made during the past two years.

Berrada made the assessment as the club released its latest financial results, highlighting the strength of its commercial operations despite Manchester United being without European football during the previous season.

In a statement posted on X on Wednesday alongside the financial results, Berrada said the club’s record revenue and adjusted EBITDA demonstrated the resilience of its business and the enduring appeal of the Manchester United brand.

“We are pleased to have secured record revenues and adjusted EBITDA which demonstrates the underlying strength of our business, particularly in a season without European football,” Berrada said.

He said the results reflected the impact of measures implemented since the current leadership began its work, while also pointing to the club’s global commercial appeal.

“This shows the direct impact of the work we have been doing over the past two years. It also proves Manchester United’s enduring popularity and commercial strength. While these results confirm that we are on the right trajectory, we will continue to take a disciplined approach to ensure our finances remain sustainable.”

The financial performance comes at a significant point in United’s efforts to rebuild both on and off the pitch. The club missed out on European competition last season, but its commercial operations continued to generate record figures.

Berrada stressed that financial sustainability would remain a priority as the club seeks to strengthen its competitive position.

United return to Champions League

The chief executive also highlighted the club’s return to Europe’s premier club competition as another sign of progress.

Manchester United have invested in both their men’s and women’s squads during the summer transfer window, with Berrada saying the recruitment was undertaken with the club’s financial sustainability in mind.

“With that financial sustainability in mind, we have strengthened both our men’s and women’s teams during the summer window and our men’s team has seen the return of Champions League football to Old Trafford,” Berrada said.

The return to the Champions League provides United with an additional sporting and commercial opportunity, given the competition’s significance for clubs competing at the highest level of European football.

For the club’s leadership, the challenge will now be to build on the improved financial position while maintaining control of costs and continuing to improve performances on the pitch.

Berrada’s comments underline the two-track approach being pursued at Old Trafford: strengthening the football operation while protecting the club’s long-term financial position.

The latest results, according to the United chief, demonstrate that the club can maintain strong commercial performance even in the absence of European football, while the return to the Champions League gives the club an opportunity to build further momentum in the new season.
