Former Big Brother Naija housemate Neche has revealed that she left the reality show despite believing she had a strong chance of winning the grand prize, saying personal circumstances ultimately influenced her decision.
The reality television star, speaking in an interview with Pulse, reflected on her experience in the Big Brother Naija house and the unexpected level of support she discovered after her exit.
Neche said she developed confidence in her chances of winning relatively early in the competition. According to her, by the second week, she had already begun to see herself as a potential winner, although she acknowledged that such confidence was common among contestants.
“Honestly, at week two, I was convinced I could win the show, but, I mean, that was just every regular housemate’s conviction,” Neche stated.
However, what surprised her most was the magnitude of the support waiting for her outside the house. While she had expected to attract attention and a fan base through her participation, she said the reception she received far exceeded what she had imagined.
“I was surprised as to what I saw outside, mind you. It was like times ten of what I expected… I thought to myself like, ‘I might not win, but I can get to the finals?’ So yeah, I think I would have won. Even now more so.”
Her comments suggest that, with hindsight, Neche believes she had a realistic shot at progressing deep into the competition and possibly taking home the ultimate prize.
Why Neche Walked Away
Despite her confidence and the possibility of going further in the competition, Neche chose to leave the Big Brother house.
Asked about the circumstances surrounding her decision, the former housemate said several personal factors played a role. However, she declined to disclose the specific details, stressing that some aspects of the decision would remain private.
“I feel like there were personal circumstances and a lot of situation that led to my decision, the detail I would like to keep private at the same time I’m very confident scout my decision I’m at peace with it,” she said.
For Neche, the decision appears to have been less about losing interest in the competition and more about prioritising her personal circumstances and wellbeing.
‘₦160m Was a Lot of Money’
One of the biggest questions surrounding her decision to leave was whether she regretted walking away from the ₦160 million prize money.
Neche admitted that the financial reward was substantial and acknowledged that she had initially imagined herself remaining in the house for a much longer period. Nevertheless, she maintained that choosing herself was more important than the prospect of winning the money.
“Honestly, I don’t regret choosing myself above everything else because at the end of the day you are what matters but 160 million was a lot of money. I had also envisioned myself staying in the house longer,” she said.
Her remarks highlight the difficult choice contestants can face on a reality show where fame, public support and a life-changing cash prize can compete with personal circumstances.
While Neche believes she had the potential to reach the final stages—and possibly win—she remains firm that leaving was the right decision for her.
For the former housemate, the ₦160 million may have represented a major opportunity, but she ultimately placed a higher value on making a decision that allowed her to remain at peace with herself.
