Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo has thrown her support behind Peter Obi ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, expressing concern over the country’s failure to translate its abundant natural and human resources into improved living conditions for its citizens.
Ozokwo, widely recognised by her screen name, Mama G, made her position known at a gathering organised under the banner “Celebrities for Peter Obi.” The veteran actress used the occasion to reflect on the country’s economic challenges, the distribution of wealth and what she described as the need for a new direction.
Speaking to those gathered at the event, Ozokwo likened Nigeria to a child who has been given virtually everything but has failed to make proper use of the advantages available to it.
“I see this country as a spoiled child,” she said.
She argued that Nigeria’s natural endowments should have placed the country in a stronger position among nations, noting that other countries with significantly fewer resources have managed to achieve greater levels of development.
“There is nothing God did not provide for us. Other nations of the world, if they have one quarter of what God has given to us, they will be better than what they are today,” she added.
The actress also raised concerns about the disparity in wealth, pointing to the concentration of substantial resources in the hands of a relatively small section of society while many Nigerians continue to face economic difficulties.
According to Ozokwo, some individuals have accumulated wealth on a scale that could provide for several generations of their families, even as other citizens struggle to meet their basic needs.
“Some people in this country have laid up for themselves for their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren,” she said.
Her comments formed part of a broader appeal for Nigerians to consider the direction of the country and the leadership choices that will shape its future.
Ozokwo further addressed the celebrities present at the gathering, reminding them that their visibility and public standing give them a platform that can influence conversations beyond the entertainment industry.
She urged them to recognise the value of their public image and the importance of maintaining the trust associated with their names.
“Celebrities here, what we have, we have our faces. We have our integrity,” she said.
The gathering comes as political activity and public discussions around the 2027 elections continue to gain momentum, with political figures and supporters beginning to articulate their positions ahead of the polls.
