Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council after her name appeared on a list of members of its Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.

The actress said she was neither consulted nor informed before her name was included in the campaign structure, prompting her to publicly clarify her position.

Abraham made the clarification after the composition of the campaign council generated reactions on social media, with some users questioning her alleged involvement in the political structure.

Responding to the development, the actress said her decision to distance herself from the council had nothing to do with criticism or alleged bullying on social media.

According to her, she only became aware that her name had been included after seeing the published list.

“Bro, I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I woke up and saw my name on a list I knew absolutely nothing about,” she said.

Abraham further reiterated that she had previously made her position on political participation known, stressing that she had no interest in becoming involved in politics.

“Moreover, I’ve already said it, I’m not interested in politics,” she stated.

Entertainers listed on campaign council

The controversy followed the unveiling of the Lagos APC Campaign Council, which included a number of personalities from Nigeria’s entertainment industry under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.

Among those listed were veteran actor Jide Kosoko, actress Eniola Badmus and other entertainment industry figures.

Abraham’s inclusion, however, quickly became a subject of public discussion, prompting the actress to clarify that her appearance on the list should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the campaign council or an indication of her participation in its activities.

The actress had earlier called on members of the public to disregard reports linking her to the political structure.

She maintained that she was not a member of any political campaign council and had no prior knowledge that her name would be included in the Lagos APC campaign list.

Her latest statement reinforces that position, with Abraham stressing that her decision to withdraw herself from the council was a personal one and was not the result of pressure from critics online.

The development has once again drawn attention to the involvement of entertainers in political campaigns, particularly in Lagos, where celebrities and other public figures are frequently courted by political parties because of their visibility and influence.

For Abraham, however, her latest clarification makes her position clear: she says she does not intend to participate in the political campaign structure and was not consulted before her name appeared on the list.
