Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about one of his deepest concerns in life, revealing that his greatest fear is not knowing the right time to step away from music.

The award-winning singer made the revelation during a video broadcast, where he reflected on the challenges faced by successful personalities whose careers eventually decline after years of dominance.

Davido explained that watching celebrated figures lose relevance after reaching the peak of their careers has made him think deeply about his own future in the entertainment industry.

The singer said he fears working hard to build a successful legacy only to damage it by overstaying his time in the spotlight.

“If there is one thing I could build, I would build a therapy centre for people who were popular and very successful people. Because it is crazy to be on top of the world and the next moment you are not,” Davido said.

He noted that the pressure to remain successful affects people across different fields, including sports, where even legendary athletes are sometimes criticised despite their achievements.

“Even in soccer, you win World Cup, Champions League and other trophies and people still don’t think it is enough. For instance, look at my good friend Ronaldo – after everything he’s done for football, they still laughed at him for exiting the World Cup,” he added.

Davido described the fear of losing relevance after years of success as a reality many public figures struggle with, saying he hopes to have the wisdom to make the right decision about his career when the time comes.

“That is my greatest fear. I have worked so hard for me to come and spoil it with something. I pray to God every day to show me the right time to pack it up,” he stated.

The singer, who has remained one of Afrobeats’ biggest global ambassadors, has enjoyed a career spanning over a decade, with numerous international collaborations, awards and record-breaking achievements.

His comments highlight the emotional and psychological challenges that can come with fame, where maintaining success, protecting a legacy and knowing when to move on can be as difficult as achieving stardom itself.
