'The Suicide Squad' 2021 Trailer Teases the DC Comics Sequel

DC Comics’ Suicide Squad is officially back in action. Warner Bros. has finally released  The Suicide Squad trailer for James Gunn’s highly-anticipated sequel. The Suicide Squad trailer 2021 teases the epic superhero reunion of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, John Cena’s Peacemaker, Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, and other characters from across the DC Extended Universe.

A sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad film, The Suicide Squad follows the DCEU’s iconic villains as the join forces to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory. The trailer tracks the formation of the group, known as Task Force X, and the various obstacles — from internal squabble to super villain-style treachery — that threaten to derail their mission. Will they be able to “save” the day (these are imprisoned convicts, after all), or will they come back with a few less Suicide Squad members?

With this ragtag group of antiheroes, you never know. Watch The Suicide Squad trailer 2021 above, and read on for more information about the DC Comics sequel!

Warner Bros.’ The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to be released in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.

Still, some fans say it's John Cena who steals the show as the patriotic vigilante Peacemaker. This is in part due to a line of dialogue in the trailer with Cena explaining the lengths he would go to protect the liberty of the American people. It's a little too vulgar to repeat here verbatim, but the scene had many fans laughing out loud, convincing them that Cena was going to be the standout of the blockbuster movie's all-star cast.

"Choked on my coffee at the John Cena bit on the beach," writes one fan on Twitter, adding that "this looks amazing."

"John Cena/Peacemaker having the best line in the whole trailer," another fan says, posting a clip of the scene.

Another tweet reads: "John Cena proved in that two minute trailer, where he had limited lines he earned that HBO Max spinoff."

"No secret now why HBO is already hard at work on a Peacemaker series. @JohnCena is gonna steal the movie," stand-up comic also Chris Killian tweeted.

Another fan agrees by tweeting: "This is going to be genuinely hilarious, John Cena already looks like he's going to steal the movie."

On his own Twitter account, John Cena posted his new character poster for The Suicide Squad just ahead of the release of the trailer, telling fans to "hold onto your peace-loving pants." The WWE legend also said of the new trailer itself: "This one may require some 'hands over the ears' for younger audiences ... but #Peacemaker is ready for duty. All types of duty."

As of now, Cena is the only cast member from The Suicide Squad to have his own spinoff in active development. He will return in the role for the eight-episode series Peacemaker on HBO Max in early 2022. James Gunn wrote the series and will direct the pilot and several additional episodes. It's not yet clear which other characters from The Suicide Squad will appear in the series.

The Suicide Squad brings back Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, among others from the 2016 film. It introduces new characters like Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Michael Rooker of Guardians of the Galaxy fame as Savant, Alice Braga as SolSoria, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, John Cena as Peacemaker, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, and King Shark voiced by Stallone, among others.

The Suicide Squad has been directed by James Gunn who also helmed the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Gunn also wrote the movie alongside John Ostrander who wrote the comic book that the movie is based on. DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, and The Safran Company have produced The Suicide Squad that will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
