Comedian questions income sources of female creators, challenges them to disclose investments
Nigerian comedian and content creator Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known as Mummy Wa, has sparked controversy after alleging that many women in Nigeria's entertainment industry engage in prostitution.
The skitmaker made the claim while discussing the financial realities of content creation and the lifestyles of some female entertainers during an episode of the Unserious Podcast.
Mummy Wa questioned how some female content creators and social media personalities fund their lifestyles, arguing that the earnings from content creation alone may not explain the level of wealth displayed by some entertainers.
Speaking from her experience as a content creator, she said she was familiar with the amount creators could make from their work and disputed the suggestion that simply going viral automatically resulted in substantial income.
She also addressed the practice of men gifting female creators, arguing that such gifts often come with expectations of receiving something in return.
“What is the source of income?. A lot of women in the entertainment industry are prostitutes. I am a content creator as well, I know how much we are making! Like if you go viral the money will just come like that? It’s a lie. What are you doing to make the man happy? Let them show us their investment,” Mummy Wa stated.
Her comments have generated debate, particularly over her broad characterisation of women working in the entertainment industry.
While Mummy Wa presented her remarks as an observation based on her understanding of the content-creation space, her claim was not supported with specific evidence identifying entertainers involved in prostitution.
