LIFE AND TIMES OF NICHOLAS ANUKANTI, A TV ICON

Nicholas Anukanti was born in Lagos and he grew up in Lagos and Ibadan, He was first son of his family and the second child in a family of six.

His broadcasting career started at Galaxy Television, he was discovered by the Chairman of the station, Chief Steve Ojo who saw him, while he was still in school in 1993/94. His first show was “Campus Life & Preview.” He was going to campuses to see what was going around there - both social and academic issues. After about a year, he changed the name to “Campus Affairs” which became a brand.
Nicholas was able to visit over 80 per cent of the higher institutions in Nigeria. Even while he was doing that, he had this passion for fashion because most of the things he was doing then was about ladies and what they wear. But everyone was saying 'this guy like girls,' 'but I understand that television is a glamorous business. Fashion is about females; if you are doing any business and ladies are not involved, that business may collapse. They are your wives, mothers and sisters. If they want something you better get it for them if you want peace in that house' he replied his critics.
At a point he re-branded the name of his show to “Campus Africa” and registered with the Association of African Universities and this show has been recorded in a university in Kenya. He had been to Ghana, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin Republic and recorded some of the major universities in these countries.
At Galaxy, the success of Campus Affairs gave birth to another programme called “Campus Dating Game.” In order not to limit the audience to just the people on campus, he changed it to “Dating Game Show.” That was when Galaxy TV came in to Lagos. He also came up with some other programmes like “Party Time”, “Galaxy Damsel,. Nigerian T.V. Fashion Show. The programme has celebrated over 400 top designers and over 5,000 models in Nigeria.
Nicholas worked for over 11 years in Galaxy TV and left for Superscreen, where he became the Head, Entertainment Department to start some programmes called “Style.com”, “Flave.” etc. .
He discovered that fashion relates to everything; 'if you don't eat in the morning' you will still wear something' he used to say. He loved fashion because it is an art - your make-up, hairstyle, etc are part of fashion and believed a lot of things come through inspiration, sometimes you sit down and ideas just come to you. In other words, he derived his inspiration from God, and from things around him.
Nicholas Anukanti was a fashion TV presenter and the brain behind Nigerian Television Fashion Show and Style.com. He was not married until he died on Saturday 10th Oct 2009 after a brief illness. He was 37 years old. May God grant the family, friends, loved ones and all those who have come to be a part of the beautiful world of Nicholas the courage to bear this great loss.

May his soul continue to rest in peace, very sad he hadn't married & bear children. I love to watch campus affairs so much because we were young and aspiring to get admission then, the program always ginger our passion to get into campus environment and have experience first hand.

I remembered when el-oscar died too. Watching that announcement live on galaxy TV changed my mood completely that I really sobered as young as I was back then. These people made our days and hungry for higher insitution lives back then after completing secondary schools. It’s sad that there is no blog that carried or has information about el-Oscar’s death or his biography. Rip to them all.
