Two term former governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmed Sani Yerima, who is now a member of the upper legislative chamber, is said to have married a 13-year-old an Egyptian as his new wife. And the wedding, which took place at the Abuja National Mosque four weeks ago, has left controversy in its wake.
Insiders divulged that Senator Yerima courted the wrath of some gender and women activists when he picked the teenager as his wife.
Sprinkles learnt that the young Egyptian girl is just slightly above 13 years of age. And, many members of his household are equally said to have kicked against the marriage.
Senator Sani Yerima, who governned Zamfara State for 8 years (1999-2007), and was the only governor of his era, who was succeeded by his deputy, is already known to have four wives, but divorced one of them before he married the teenager.
Now, Senator Ahmed Rufai Sani Yerima, who will clock 50 years on July 22 this year is at the mercy of some activists, who are now calling for his neck for daring to marry such a young girl.
The Masters Degree holder in Economics, who serves in the Senate Committees on Federal Characters and Inter-government Affairs, Drugs, Narcotics and Anti- Corruption is however, said to have remained undaunted.
The ex-governor, who introduced Sharia Law in Zamfara State, is said to have paid $100,000 as bride price for the 13-year-old Egyptian virgin.
