A French oil and
gas services company says six Russian sailors and an Estonian kidnapped from
one of its ships off the coast of Nigeria's oil delta have been freed.
Paris-based
Bourbon said in a statement on Thursday that the men were freed in "good
health" and would leave Nigeria in the coming days. The company did not
offer any other details about how the men were freed, though most companies pay
ransoms to free their seized workers.
Military
spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu did not immediately respond to
a request for comment.
The men were
kidnapped October 17 after an attack on their ship.
Militant and
criminal attacks have waned in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta after a 2009
government-sponsored amnesty deal. However, kidnappings still take place.
