The senate is
seeking to compel the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to present a
state of the nation address annually.
The senate hopes
to achieve this by passing a bill for an act to make provision for the state of
the nation address by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The bill, when passed,would
compel the president in company of the vice president and the chief justice of
the federation present to a joint sitting of the national assembly an address
on critical issues and appraise government performance in the past year.
The address, when
approved, will be different from the usual presidential address to the nation.
The federal
lawmakers want the president by law to address a joint sitting of the national
assembly annually, explaining his policies, goals and agenda.
