Cape Town - The first official
photograph of Ashton Kutcher as late Apple guru Steve Jobs in the a biopic
entitled jOBS has been released.
On Tuesday it was announced that
jOBS will close Robert Redford's annual Sundance Film Festival in late January
2013.
The independent film, directed by
Joshua Michael Stern, also stars Josh Gad as fellow Apple founder Steve
Wozniak, alongside Dermot Mulroney, Lukas Haas, James Woods and Matthew Modine.
JObs covers 30 years of Jobs'
life, from his days as a college dropout to becoming a tech pioneer who passed
away in October 2011.
In the photo Ashton, who
currently stars on Two and Half Men, can be seen portraying a young Jobs and
recreates a photo of Jobs taken during the early years of Apple.
The casting of 34-year-old Ashton
in the role initially drew a wave of criticism, but the director of programming
at Sundance, Trevor Groth, assures that the actor owns the role.
"We're really excited to
have it as the closing night. It's really an inspirational and entertaining
film about a man who has had such a significant impact on the world,"
Groth told USA Today.
"My hunch is he got the job
because he bears a striking resemblance to Jobs physically. But [Kutcher]
really owns the performance."
An official release date is yet
to be confirmed.
