The death of popular Nollywood actress, Bisi Komalafe shook Nigerian's and fans abroad. The cause of her death, which was first reported to be pregnancy complications, drew more questions than available answers to back up that claim.
Those who have knowledge of pregnancy matters sworn that complications from miscarriage can never cause a woman’s death. This then brought about the rumour that she may have died of abortion. If that is the case, another puzzle that would prove a hard nut to crack is; will the University College Hospital, UCH, in Ibadan, Oyo State, carry out an abortion on a patient jeopardising its highly valued brand?
Now, that herculean task may have been defeated. A report reached us that the doctor that first treated Bisi before referring her to UCH claimed that she wasn’t bleeding but was receiving blood. The identity or the hospital was not disclosed.
“It was not just a miscarriage she had, I treated her in my hospital few weeks before her demise, where I counselled and referred her to UCH. She kept on receiving blood without bleeding and her PCV kept on going down.
“I learnt the pregnancy was terminated to save her life and in all, she took about 40 units of blood within 3 months. It was not negligence on the part of the doctors who saw her but the nature of an ailment that kept drying up her blood without any active bleeding in her body,”
There are still many questions on the lips of many on Bisi’s death which are begging for urgent answers. Until answers are provided, talks about Bisi’s death may linger on for a long time.
