Guardian Reporter Alleges Threat To Life

Saxone Akhaine, The Guardian newspapers’ Kaduna State correspondent, has alleged threat to his life by an unknown person.

In a petition to the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Femi Adenaike, Akhaine alleged that on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at about 8:33pm, he received a phone call from an unknown person who threatened his life after confirming his (Akhaine) identity.

“Are you Saxone? We would soon get at you. We know where you stay,” Akhaine wrote in his petition.
He further alleged that at 10:17pm and 10:18pm same day, he received text messages from a mobile phone number 08168638494 saying, “I called you. Your days are numbered. We will get you very soon.”

Akhaine urged the police and the SSS to unravel those behind the alleged threat to his life.
In his petition, he also copied the chairman of the Kaduna State council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ.
