Gunmen Kill 19 In Kaduna Villages

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have launched massive and bloody attack on Attakar community of Mafang and Zilang villages, killing no fewer than 19 and injuring about 10 persons.

The suspected gunmen were said to have stormed the two villages in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State at about 3am on Sunday, burning houses and food items, after they had carried out the bloody attacks.

Confirming the incident, Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Olufemi Adenaike said, “you journalists need to go and climb the hills there and appreciate what the police and soldiers are doing there. They have been combing the area for the past three days now. In fact, they are staying there permanently now, going up and down the hills.

“No arrest has been made yet. The criminals came, did what they did and climbed the hills because the area is a hilly place. We are trying our best to arrest the offenders.” Also confirming the attack, Chairman of Kaura Local Government Area, Kumai Badu said the attacks were allegedly launched by the Fulanis in the two villages.

The council boss said, “the attack also led to the burning of virtually all houses and food items in the two villages. Nineteen people have been killed while 10 others were seriously injured in Mafang and Zilang villages. “Over 200 victims of the attack are presently taking refuge at Mifi and Fadan Attakar villages while relief materials are being provided by the local government to assuage their sufferings.”

Meanwhile, Southern Kaduna people under the eagis of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) have blamed the state Governor, Muhktar Ramalan Yero for ignoring their cry over mass exodus of Fulani herdsmen from Plateau and other states to the Southern Kaduna communities in view of security challenges in Kaduna State and the country at large.

President of SOKAPU, Dr. Ephraim Goje, had earlier spoken to journalists on massive movement of Fulani people from troubled states in the North to Southern Kaduna villages, “saying my people will hold Governor Muhktar Ramalan responsible for closing his eyes to this security threat. We are concerned about the migration of the Fulani people from other states to Southern Kaduna villages.”

“The governor should send them back to where they came from. They cannot create trouble somewhere and run to Southern Kaduna for refuge.

He should not blame anybody if the community of Southern Kaduna decides anything different because enough is enough for this nonsense. “In as much as we respect the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria about the freedom of choice of where to stay, our concern is that the Fulanis are people who have created trouble somewhere and are running to Southern Kaduna for refuge.

“We are concerned because of the reoccurring of attacks in our villages by this same group of people. These are people who have been dislodged from Plateau and other states and are coming to foment trouble on our land.”
