Sony Announces The Even More Waterproof Xperia ZR

Sony has officially announced the Sony Xperia ZR, a new Android smartphone that follows the release of the Xperia Z (Read the review here), hailed for its water-resistant technology.

Sony has taken its water-resistance technology up a notch  with the new device, allowing for photographs and video footage to be captured, with a dedicated camera button, in up to 1.5 meters of water – that’s fresh rather than salt. This is possible with a 13 megapixel fast capture camera and 4.6-inch HD Reality display.

Other specs of the 4.6-inch, 720p smartphone include a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quadcore 1.5 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, 4G LTE NFC support, Sony’s Walkman album and movie apps.

According to the official press release the also dustproof Xperia ZR’s display is powered by the same Mobile Bravia Engine 2 tech found in the Xperia Z. The OptiContrast panel reduces reflections and provides clearer viewing even in bright sunlight.
