Akomaye, EFCC’s Pioneer Secretary Takes a Bow

The tenure of Mr. Emmanuel Akomaye as Secretary to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, formally came to an end on Friday, June 14, 2013 when he handed the affairs of his former office to the Commission's Director of Organizational Support, Mr. Bolaji Salami pending the confirmation of the Secretary-Designate, Mr. Emmanuel Adegboyega Aremo by the Senate.

At the brief ceremony witnessed by senior management staff of the Commission at its headquarters in Abuja, the Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde eulogized Akomaye for his contributions in helping to nurture the EFCC from the cradle into an institution that is respected nationally and internationally. While noting that no individual is indispensable in an organization, Lamorde observed that Akomaye was an exception. He said the departing secretary would be missed as he has become a critical part of the institutional memory of the Commission. He said even though Akomaye is transiting to other endeavours, the Commission may still refer to him, from time to time.

In his remark, Akomaye expressed gratitude to former President Olusegun Obansanjo who appointed him in 2003; late President Umaru Yar 'Adua who re-appointed him in 2008 and President Goodluck Jonathan for the support extended to the incumbent Chairman of the EFCC. He also thanked the staff and management of the Commission for their support over the years. "I want to thank the Executive Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde and all the members of the Commission for the exceptional working relationship I have had with them", he said.

He also acknowledged the excellent working relationship which he had with the past leadership of the Commission, stressing that they all, in their respective ways, contributed to building the EFCC into an enviable institution.

Akomaye whose tenure expired on June 6, 2013, said the delay in the confirmation of his successor necessitated his handing over to the Director of Organizational Support who would pass on the hand over notes to Mr. Aremo, when he assumes office. He however promised to make himself available to illuminate any issue in the handover note where there is need for such.
