    Kano Government Empowers Graduate Drivers With Vehicles


    In what is the first phase of the Kano State youth empowerment scheme, about 250 graduates from the state have been given a brand new Toyota Corolla S. after completing their training at Nigeria institute of transport technology, Zaria so as to become professional drivers for the first phase of modernized Amana luxury taxis.

    Drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state, about one thousand graduates were put into the training programme who are jobless and the first 250 graduates turned drivers were award the vehicles to flag off the Amana luxury taxis.

    At a launching ceremony where the distribution of certificate and car keys to the beneficiaries were done, Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso says the initiative is a step towards solving transportation problems in a modernize way as obtained in the developed Nations of the world.

    According to report, over one billion naira was expended in the procurement of the vehicles as each car was purchase at the cost of 4.4 million naira with a free interest rate at a price of 2.8 million naira to be paid by each driver within the period of two years.

    To the beneficiaries who had since collected their car keys from the governor, it’s an expression of appreciation with a promise to pay the money at the stipulated period.

    However, the problem with this kind of empowerment program is continuity; it therefore, hoped that the Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso government of Kano state will find a way to ensure the continuity of the scheme as well as the prompt payment of tax payers’ money by the modernized drivers.
