Residents of Kaduna were yesterday thrown into a state of confusion following a clash between the operatives of Nigerian Army and Mobile Police officers attached to Kaduna State Government House.
The incident which took place at about 11: 30 near the Government House, led to heavy traffic build- up as car owners abandoned their vehicles on the road to have a glimpse of the clash between the two gladiators.
Our correspondent, who witnessed the drama, saw the two arms of security service exchanging bitter words as well as threatening each other with their weapons before the arrival of the Aide De Camp (ADC) to the governor, DSP Tafida.
We learnt that trouble started when the soldiers impounded the motorcycle of a Mobile Police officer attached to Government House who attempted to ride pass a military check point.
Eyewitnesses told our Correspondent that “the soldiers at the check point asked the Mobile Police officer to disembark and push it passed the check-point. The Policeman refuse and the soldiers in turn seized the motorcycle from him.
“It was in that regard that the policeman left the soldiers went into the Government House and told his colleagues about the harassment. Immediately, the Police officers attached to the governor’s convoy assembled and moved straight to the military check-point to challenge the harassment of their colleagues,” the eyewitness said.
We that the Mobile Police Officers loaded in two of the escort vehicles attached to the governor’s office had, on approaching the soldiers, blocked one lane of the road thereby causing heavy traffic on the busy road. The situation also compelled the soldiers to call for reinforcement from their barrack.
