Rivers Crisis: Northern Governors Threaten to Stop Funding Nigerian Police

The governors met with the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Four Northern governors that visited Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State have threatened to stop assisting in the funding of the Nigeria Police Force.
The governors, members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, after their meeting with Mr. Amaechi, also reiterated their demand for state police.
Governors Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano, and Babangida Aliyu of Niger visited Rivers on Tuesday to express solidarity with Mr. Amaechi. The governors’ convoy was pelted by stones, water sachets and other substances by some anti-Amaechi protesters.
The governors’ visit follows the violence in Rivers last week between supporters and opponents of Mr. Amaechi in the state House of Assembly. The Rivers police commissioner was accused of siding with the anti-Amaechi forces that are loyal to the presidency.
