    Amosun’s Wife Inaugurates Waste-To-Wealth Scheme

The wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, has inagurated a waste-to-wealth scheme to generate  employment opportunities for youths in the state.
At the commencement of the second phase of the waste-to-wealth scheme on Wednesday at Opako-Adigbe Refuse Dumpsite in Abeokuta, Mrs. Amosun implored youths to explore the waste recycling business.

This she said would enable them not only to earn a living but also to sustain the environment rather than seeking and waiting for non-available white collar jobs.
The governor’s wife therefore charged the youth to create employment for themselves by gathering waste from dumpsites for the purpose of recycling it and creating wealth.

Mrs. Amosun stressed that the scheme would identify those youths interested in waste recycling and teach them how to collect plastics, bottles and other waste materials, which they could turned into productive and profitable use.
The governor’s wife also said that apart from creating wealth, the exercise would also reduce pollution and other environmental hazards, thereby sustaining the environment.

She said, “There is dignity in labour. The work you put into waste recycling would determine what you get out of it. Collecting refuse could put food on your table and even make you an employer of labour, if you are actually serious with the job.”
At the event, participating youths in the GEFTY waste-to-wealth scheme were taken through the process of waste collection and how it could be sold to companies which would turn them around for other uses rather than burning and allowing them to waste away at refuse dumpsites.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Lanre Tejuoso, who also spoke at the  event noted that the empowerment programme was to kick-start the Uplifting Development Foundation projects to educate youths on green education and to encourage them to participate in making Ogun an environmentally-friendly and green state.
Tejuosho urged the participants to identify refuse dumpsites in all the local government areas in the state where they could collect waste for  sale to companies.

Demonstrating the process of waste collection to the participants, the Director of Environment, Mr. Godswill Onyebuchi, advised them to take the issue of refuse collection seriously.
Onyebuchi said engaging in the waste recycling business could enhance the youths’ standard of living and make them better persons in the future.
