Nigerian policemen at the Seme border between Nigeria and Benin Republic have rescued two children allegedly stolen from Idi-Ape- Quarters in Ilorin,the Kwara State capital. The kids, a boy and a girl, aged between five and six years, were abducted in the morning when they were sent to dispose off some refuse.
After an endless search, information filtered into the town that they have been found at the Seme border around 3pm. The alleged trafficker stopped over at a filling station in Seme to refuel his car when the children regained their consciousness and screamed for help.
The alarm attracted the attention of a police patrol team in the area and some members of the community to the scene.
On sensing danger, he sped off, abandoning the children and about four others. The victims were said to have given useful information which enabled the police to trace their homes in Ilorin and reunite them with their family.
However, the development prompted members of the Idi-Ape Quarters to comb the area and descended on some destitute. During the raid, a pistol was found on a man, pretending to be insane.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Fabode, a Deputy Superintendent, said the case was reported at Oja Oba, C division, yesterday. The PPRO said he would contact the station and get back to our reporter.
