We Suffer From Bad Roads, Terrible Electricity -Egan Residents Tell Lagos Government

Some residents of Egan, near Igando, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, have sent a save-our-soul message to the government over the deplorable condition of the roads in the area.
The residents urged government to look into the epileptic electricity supply which had left the area in total darkness for several years.
Oluwaseun Shodeyibo, a businessman, said that he had been attacked by armed robbers due to the bad state of the road.

“I was attacked by these hoodlums very easily because the road was bad and I couldn’t accelerate in my car in order to escape.
“I leave my house in the early hours of each day to get to my office on the island, but after the incident, I now take my time before getting on the road,” Mr. Shodeyibo said.
On electricity supply, Mr. Shodeyibo said it was “terrible and pathetic.”
“As it is now, I cannot remember the day we had power supply and as a matter of fact, I switch on my generator every day,” he said.

Mr. Shodeyibo however, appealed to the state government to come to their assistance so they could be relieved of the hardship.
A mother of three, Damilola Davies, also confirmed that the condition of the road and the poor power supply had been a major problem facing the area.
“When the rainy season comes, the road is always in a very bad shape and we find it very difficult to move around and more importantly, transport fares are on the increase.
“I buy nothing less than N500 worth of fuel everyday to switch on my generator. Power supply in this area is epileptic,” she said.

While commending the efforts of the government in turning Lagos into a mega-city, she urged it to focus attention on the area so that the residents could also enjoy the dividends of democracy.
A commercial bus driver, Tony Adebayo, lamented that the area had suffered neglect for years.
“My bus suffers a lot from the bad road which makes us increase the fares, most especially when it rains. I change my brake pad and oil almost all the time due to the bad roads.
“I have been living in this area for the past five years and the power supply had been the same; as a matter of fact it is even getting worse.
“The government should listen to our cry and do everything necessary to make the area conducive for the residents,” he said.
