When you see a Pastor who is
quick to condemn, look closely, his hands are not clean.
Popular singer Kefee has revealed
her encounter with Senior Pastor of Abuja-based ministry; Commonwealth of God
Assembly (COZA) Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and how he rubbished her through his
aide due to a scandal, but the same pastor today has not been able to clear his
own messy scandal.
Irikefe Obareki popularly known
as Kefee is a Nigerian live performing/ recording female artiste, a United
Nation Young Ambassador for Peace and a modern day African music ambassador to
the world.
A passionate singer, song writer
and skilled dancer, the Sapele, Delta State-born artiste, Kefee said… "His
P.A called me on phone to say, the Pastor said the church does not want
anything to do with me again, because there are top government officials
attending the church." But now the story has changed.
In this chat below Kefee reveals
her encounter with the Pastor...
Some people were not happy because you featured Timaya in Kokoroko and
he's a secular singer. How would you react to that?
Before I react to that question,
let me tell you a short true story. In 2008, I was invited to perform at a
church in Abuja for the second time. The publicity for the show was massive,
they had distributed invitation card to guests, and people were even calling to
confirm if I was going to perform. Infact, I got copies of the flyers weeks
before the show.
I was getting ready to go to
airport when I got a call from the Pastor's P.A asking if I had seen a certain
newspaper's story about me. I said yes, it was a scandal, and he said they
don't want to have anything to do with me because of the scandal. Besides, he
added that they have top government officials who worship in their church, and
all sort. I said ok.

But the so-called senior pastor,
who called me initially to plead with me to accept a certain amount because it
was a new church couldn't call me again, he had to send his P.A to talk to me.
He didn't care what happened to me, if it was true what was said about me by an
angry, bitter man. I felt really low not because I didn't do the show but
because they cared not about what happened to me, because that would have end
my career.
Later, I called Timaya, we met at
studio somewhere in Festac town, and Timaya asked me about the scandal, which
he told me what I expected a man of God would've told me. I remember, Timaya
said to me; "Don't worry, if your hands are clean, you will see God turn things
around for you. God will help you my sister"
I say this in all sobriety, after
which we recorded Kokoroko. When Kokoroko came out and Timi Dakolo listened to
it, he said "Kefee, you dey make me like God in a different way"
Sometimes one wonders, if these
truly, holy men are of God or of gods.
Who would have ever thought that
the man of God in question, who now has his share of scandal and is still
planning a robust reply would act that weird, So when I heard people talking
about me featuring Timaya, it sounds funny. God can use anything, anybody at
anytime.

Her unique afro-centric music appeal recently received global recognition when she was selected as the poster African artiste for 2011 edition African music at The African Festival of the Arts in Chicago (AFA).
With her well lauded performance in Chicago, Kefee has now joined the hallowed list of other African music greats to mount the same platform such as Angelique Kidjo and Hugh Masekela.
That international exposure among numerous other tours to several parts of Africa, Europe and the rest of the world is a further testament to her growing cross-cultural music appeal.
Her recognition as United Nation Ambassador for Peace is in recognition of her contribution towards bringing lasting peace to troubled regions in Nigeria such as the Niger Delta region where she hails of from and lately the Northern Nigerian city of Jos, Plateau State. Aside recently staging a concert and donating relief items to victims of violence in Jos, she also led over 20 artistes representing diverse cultures to record a peace song.
In 2005, she was honoured as Kora Award’s Best African Traditional Award South Africa. Kefee’s afro-pop music appeal has seen her work worked with artistes from around the African continent such as Ghana’s Becca.
A passionate singer, song writer and skilled dancer, the Sapele, Delta State-born artiste has three solo albums to her credit including Branama (2003), Branama II (200X) and A Piece of Me (2009).
Although her professional foray into music began with a joint album with a friend known as Estee entitled Trip (2000), however her first solo effort released in 2003 was greeted to a rousing reception.
Branama sold nine hundred (900,000) thousand audio cassettes within three weeks of the album’s release and over two million copies of CDs/VCDs in a month. She became the hottest Nigerian female artiste and won a number of awards.
