APC, Only Hope For Common Man -Atiku

As Nigerians prepare for the next general elections, former vice president, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, has said that only the All Progressives Congress (APC) can give succour to the common man in the country.
Atiku stated this in a chat with journalists in Lagos on Saturday  at the sixth Bola Tinubu Colloquium with the theme: “Summit of the common man.” The colloquium is an annual event to mark the birthday of the national leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu.
The former vice president said that the theme of this year’s colloquium, which featured presentations of the challenges of everyday living by ordinary Nigerians, was in line with the manifesto of the opposition regarding downtrodden Nigerians.
He stated that, “it is part of the APC political ideology that emphasises on the common man,” that the party’s  strategy to improve the lot of the country would be made clearer when the campaigns start.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu, who is also a former governor of Lagos State berated the Federal Government -led by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). He stated that the government was responsible for the many woes of the country.

The APC leader said the 15-year reign of the PDP had brought untold hardship to Nigerians, adding that the APC was out to rescue the country.
Consequently, he urged Nigerians to reject the ruling party in the next general election starting from the gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun states later this year.
“We have heard the frustration and pain of our people. Poverty is not a shameful thing but it is not acceptable.

“The change is now. To make it real, you have to defend your vote,” he said.
The colloquium was  attended  by  APC interim Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; a former military Head of State, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd); Chief Segun Osoba, Governors Ibikunle Amosun, Rauf Aregbesola, Kayode Fayemi and Chibuike Amaechi of Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Rivers  states respectively. Proposing the toast at the Colloquium, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State paid glowing tributes to the celebrant.
He described the APC leader as a man, who has the courage to pursue his convictions and win his own battles.

Fashola said that in spite of the problems confronting the “common man,” he remained the highest employer.
Earlier, some Nigerians from various parts of the country took turns to tell the stories of their daily struggles for survival  as “common man” and implored the government to make things easier for the poor in the country.

They include Mr Ron Mgbatogu, a pensioner from Anambra State;  Nasiru Daudawa,a farmer; Sopriye Victor, an unemployed graduate of Chemical Engineering ; Adamu Buba,  a member of the civilian JTF in Borno State  and Eric Dooh, a fisherman,  among others.
