Internet fraud: EFCC, Australian Police Collaborate

Two operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrived in Perth, Western Australia to learn from and assist its Police with major fraud investigations, news.com.au has reported.
Their arrival forms part of a fresh collaboration between Nigerian and WA authorities following a number of high profile cases of Nigerian scammers targeting West Australian’s.
Among the recent cases is that of Wagin woman Jette Jacobs, who was found dead in South Africa last year.
She is believed to have sent tens of thousands of dollars to Nigeria during a four-year online relationship with a man, who has been arrested by the EFCC.

The EFCC operatives identified as Senior Detective Superintendent Paul Okoli and Deputy Detective Superintendent Daniel Danladi will be in Perth for two weeks.
Det-Sen-Sgt Blackshaw said the pair would assist with ongoing and new fraud investigations and would also learn from WA police in the process.

“The beauty of having both of these gentlemen here with us is its broken down so many barriers from a law enforcement perspective,” Det-Sen-Sgt Blackshaw said.
“In particular both of these gentlemen have been heavily involved with the Jette Jacobs matter … also they are assisting us with a number of other investigations.
“We are hoping that this partnership that we’ve now embarked upon will provide us with even better outcomes.
“It is also a very good demonstration of Nigeria’s will to assist us here in this state to tackle the problems we’re facing with online advanced fee fraud and mortgage fraud.”
