The Nigerian Police have confirmed an explosion that just rocked the Kano metropolis.
The explosion which occurred at the school of Hygiene, Kano, has created panic amongst residents as scores are feared to have been affected from the blast.
The spokesperson of the Kano Police, Magaji Majiya, has confirmed the blast.
He said the state’s Commissioner of Police and other officers were on their way to the scene of the blast.
Police say they have arrested a suspect following a blast that killed people at around 2:30 p.m. in Kano on Monday 23 June.
Scores were also injured after a suicide-bomber invaded School of Hygiene along BUK Road, Kano, northwest Nigeria, with a car loaded with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Adenrele Shinaba, Commissioner of Police, Kano state confirmed to journalist that eight people have already died from the blast, adding that “the wounded have been taken to hospitals for treatment as I am talking to you and we are doing our best to put the situation under control.”
He urged residents to remain security conscious and report suspicious movement to police and other security agencies.
An eyewitness who spoke to journalist said he saw at least five dead bodies. “Many people were wounded, most of them, students who have being taking to the near-by Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for medical attention.”
Another eyewitness who simply identified himself as Peter said that the sound of the blast was deafening.
“I was at a corner near Rumfa College when I heard a deafening sound. On getting close to the area, I saw dead bodies and wounded people shouting for help,” he said.
